PNA Cincinnati - Northern Kentucky: Our Commitment to Lifelong Learning

Written by: Abigail Pauline Batin-Villarroya, MSN, RN

A professional nurse engages in lifelong learning that will influence practice and ultimately impact the quality of care that patient re- ceives. On November 22, 2014, the Philippine Nurses Association of Cincinnati - Northern Kentucky Chapter offered a Continuing Edu- cation program with 4.0 contact hours. This event was spearhead- ed by the Education Committee Chairperson , Camlaria Felismino MSN, RN - BC.

The program consisted of two parts with four speakers. Two of the presenters are chapter members. The first part of the program was about “Empowering Community through Self - Care Engagement”. The first topic was “Taking Care of Your Brain: Basic Stress Management Strategy Everyone Should Know” presented by Suzy Hussey APRN, CRT, CS, MSN, RN. The second presentation was “Using Patient Education in ENT Clinic to Reduce Morbidity Rates” by Jonathan Ramos MSN, RN.

The second part of the program was entitled “Human Trafficking Awareness is Key” and was presented by Nancy Walsh Henson MSN, RN and Erin Meyer BS, MS. The evaluations and feedback from the audience were positive. All four speakers received excellent ratings. The participants thought that the speakers were very knowledgeable, helpful and informative. There were several suggestions for other topics to be offered in the future. With the variety of experts among our members and the connections we have established in the community, we hope to uphold our commitment to lifelong learning as we serve our fellow nurses and our society in general.
